What changes in Málaga from 2030

The EPBD directive 2024/1275 requires every home with energy certificate D, E, F or G to reach at least label C by 2030. The Costa del Sol has an enormous housing stock from the 1960s-90s — many tourist apartments and second homes owned by foreigners — with labels ranging from D to G.

For owners this means planning improvements or accepting restrictions when selling or renting. Selling or renting a property with label E, F or G will become increasingly difficult: property portals, mortgage lenders and buyers (especially from Northern Europe) already filter by energy label.

Why Málaga is ideal for reducing energy costs

Málaga receives 1,800 to 2,000 kWh/m² of solar irradiance per year — one of the highest in Europe. The interior (Ronda, Antequera) has cooler winters that justify heat pumps, while the coast relies on air conditioning from May to October.

A poorly insulated property on the Costa del Sol can spend €250-450/month on cooling alone during summer. An inverter heat pump and proper roof insulation reduce that bill by 40% to 60%. The first prescription is not always "install solar" — sometimes it is "insulate the façade" or "replace the windows".

Real case: 95 m² apartment in Marbella with label F

A typical case we receive: 95 m² apartment, built 1988, label F, holiday use 6 months. Old air conditioning and electric water heater.

Grants and subsidies available in Málaga

In Málaga you can combine several grants. Always verify with the official source:

Agencia Andaluza de la Energía

Regional grants for solar self-consumption, heat pumps and thermal envelope improvements. Co-funded with Next Generation funds.

Plan MOVES III (IDAE)

National subsidies for EV charging, electric vehicles and residential heat pumps. Managed through the Junta de Andalucía.

IBI tax rebate (municipalities)

Málaga, Marbella, Fuengirola, Estepona and other municipalities offer 25% to 50% IBI rebate for 3 to 5 years for self-consumption installations.

IRPF deduction for energy renovation

Up to 20%, 40% or 60% income tax deduction depending on the energy label improvement achieved (RDL 19/2021 extended).

How an independent diagnosis works for your home in Málaga

First we listen: your bill, your actual usage, your home. Then we analyse the data with your Málaga postcode, compare what you have been offered and deliver a written second opinion.

We do not sell panels. We have no installer commissions. If your home does not need a large installation, we tell you. If a quote is inflated, we point it out with figures.

Frequently asked questions — Málaga

Does my holiday apartment on the Costa del Sol have to comply with 2030?

+

Yes. The regulation applies to the building, not the type of use. The label requirements will apply from 2030 when you sell, rent or renew contracts.

Are solar panels in Málaga worthwhile if I am only there a few months a year?

+

It depends on your usage pattern. A smaller installation with a heat pump may make sense. We create a personalised diagnosis rather than a one-size-fits-all prescription.

Which subsidy should I apply for first in Andalusia?

+

Usually it is more efficient to start with the IRPF deductions, as regional grants require an up-to-date energy certificate. We advise on the order in the diagnosis.

Can I trust the quote from the local installer?

+

Some are excellent, but their job is to sell. We only provide an independent technical analysis. If the quote is fair, we confirm it. If it is inflated, we say so.

How is DoctorSun different from a comparison website?

+

A comparison site connects you with installers who pay for leads. We do not sell panels or receive commission. We charge only for the diagnosis.
